Arkansas Will Be Voting On Medical Marijuana This November

This week, the Secretary of State’s office confirmed that the measure, Arkansans for Compassionate Care, had submitted enough signatures from voters in the state to qualify the measure for the November ballot.

The measure would allow for medical cannabis to be produced, tested, and distributed to patients diagnosed by a physician. Qualifications for accessing a medical marijuana card is specified as a patient having one of over 50 qualifying conditions that can be bought at one of the 38 licensed nonprofit care centers. In order for patients to grow their own marijuana, they must receive a ‘hardship certificate’ that states they do not live a reasonable distance from one of the care centers.

As she battles symptoms of lupus and depression, Alexandra Rice says she depends on easy access to medical marijuana to control widespread pain and to improve her mood.

The 21-year-old resident of Grand Terrace, near Riverside, has pictures of cannabis flowers on her Twitter profile and friends whose livelihoods depend on the pot industry. She’s also an unlikely opponent of a November ballot initiative that would legalize marijuana for all adults in California.

“If it is legalized, more people who don’t respect it and just want to get high are going to take advantage of that,” Rice said. “And people who genuinely need it as medicine will be misplaced and thrown to the side.”

Generally people are interested in finding a great deal on cannabis from their local dispensary. Others are more hedonistic and prefer the luxury of expensive and extravagant strains, this is a piece for the latter.

A typical gram of marijuana costs between $8 to $14, a strain that would be considered expensive would cost closer to $20 per gram. That’s childsplay though, what about the uber-rich pot smokers of the world? Where do they turn when they need to project their opulence to the world? A $20 gram just doesn’t cut it.
