Veterans Affairs Hospital Blocks Cannabis Lecture

Despite an encouraging word from Capitol Hill suggesting that federal lawmakers are beginning to loosen up when it comes to allowing physicians with the Department of Veterans Affairs to discuss medical marijuana with their patients, some VA hospitals are still refusing to allow any information regarding cannabis to be discussed in their facility.

Dr. Sue Sisley, a Phoenix-based doctor who has received federal approval to conduct a first-of-its-kind study on cannabis and PTSD, recently reached out to the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Medical Center in hopes of presenting its physicians some details of her latest research. However, the hospital rejected her proposal, even though Sisley says some of the doctors on staff likely have a number of patients who could benefit from participating in the study.

For the Humboldt farmers, Sonoma County's subterranean tasting rooms and Tuscan affectations offered a glimpse into a rarefied realm of legal intoxicants.

The marijuana growers had driven south from redwood country to the oak and grass hills to take part in an event called “The Women of Wine & Cannabis,” a chance to visit boutique wineries and learn about appellations and branding in the $200-billion retail alcohol market.

Toronto Police Crack Down On Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Yesterday was a sad day in Toronto as Toronto Police cracked down on several medical marijuana dispensaries as part of ‘Project Claudia.’ While it is unknown how many dispensaries were raided, I saw many reports on social media that put the number as high as 40. Those reports are from social media, so take the number for what you will, but the fact of the matter is that a very large number of dispensaries were raided, which is a huge waste of law enforcement resources. Per the Toronto Sun:

Giant bags of weed locked in police cruisers, young people in handcuffs inside dispensaries, signs that say “Closed” or “Closing.”

This was the very public face Thursday of Project Claudia — an effort by Toronto Police to crack down on stores selling medical marijuana over the counter.

Police wouldn’t say how many marijuana dispensaries were raided across the city over the lunch hour, how many people were arrested or the charges.
