Chandler Set To Begin Hearings On Medical Pot

Category: News | Posted on Thu, January, 20th 2011 by THCFinder

Chandler begins hearings this week on the rules surrounding the dispensing of medical marijuana. Public hearings on possible amendments will he held by the planning and zoning commission Wednesday and the City Council on Feb. 10. Arizona voters approved Proposition 203 last November which allows the sale of medical marijuana.

The East Valley Tribune reports an initial draft of amendments calls for Chandler facilities to be at least 1,300 feet from a school, church, daycare center, hospital, park or library. Dispensaries would be located in retail areas and cultivation sites in industrial areas. There will be a limit of 120 dispensaries statewide. It is unclear how many will be located in Chandler.

A Phoenix woman was taken into custody after border officers found 560 pounds of marijuana hidden in a vehicle she was driving. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, officers selected the woman's 2003 Ford Expedition for screening at the Douglas Port of Entry Monday morning where they found a double floor had been built into the entire floor area of the Expedition.

There they found the marijuana with an estimated street value of $256,000. The 31 year old woman, identified as a U.S. citizen, was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation and prosecution. The vehicle and marijuana were seized by CBP officers.

Cameron Diaz Says Snoop Dogg Sold Her Pot in 'LBC' High School

Category: Celebrities | Posted on Thu, January, 20th 2011 by THCFinder

Not really a shocker here: Cameron Diaz told George Lopez this week that she's "pretty sure" she bought marijuana from Snoop Dogg in high school.

America's foremost promoter of goodweed sold pot in high school? Sounds like it. Diaz apparently went to Long Beach Polytechnic High School in the '80s with Snoop. She remembered it as a campus with 3,500 students.

And she said the rapper was "very tall and skinny he wore lots of ponytails in his head."

That's him, officer. (We hope there's a statute of limitations here, because selling weed to a high school kid -- without a medical marijuana card even! -- has to be illegal).

Frankly, we were surprised to see such humility from Diaz, a former model. She talked openly about her Cuban background and growing up in "the LBC."

She said Snoop was "a year older than me ... I'm pretty sure I bought weed from him. I had to have."

"So you were green even in high school," Lopez asked, referring to her affinity for Toyota Priuses.

"Absolutely."

Police officer accused of taking seized marijuana

Category: News | Posted on Thu, January, 20th 2011 by THCFinder

A Winter Haven police officer is accused of pilfering a "marijuana bud" following the department's seizure of marijuana plants from a home.

Authorities say 36-year-old Ricardo Flores was just ending his shift about 7 p.m. Wednesday as detectives were unloading marijuana plants from a truck. As the evidence was being processed, an officer saw Flores take a marijuana bud from a plant and conceal it.

When the officer reported what he saw, Flores was called back to the department. Officers recovered the stolen marijuana and Flores was charged with burglary of a conveyance, petit theft and possession of marijuana.

Flores was suspended pending an internal investigation.

Winter Haven Police Chief Gary Hester commended the officer who reported the incident, saying "no one is above the law."

DEA: We Have Not Relaxed Our Policy on Medical Marijuana

Category: Medical Marijuana | Posted on Thu, January, 20th 2011 by THCFinder

The US Drug Enforcement Administration's "Position on Marijuana 2010" is a hot document. Dated to July, it didn't really start circulating until this January when activist Ed Rosenthal found his name in it.

Since then, the DEA link to the paper is gone, but aGoogle site search yields the file. Yesterday, the Marijuana Policy Project told supporters that the DEA's position paper labels the drug law reform group Enemy #1. But that's just a little bit of the 54-page collection of anecdotal Reefer Madness.

Thin on actual research, the littlescience the DEA cites is biased. The paper almost never discloses the number of patients in a study group, and can't cite much US research — ironically, because the DEA plays a role in ensuring such studies never get approved. But the paper does relate some sad drug war stories.

- “While some people [think] the federal government has relaxed its policy on 'medical' marijuana, this in fact is not the case. Investigations and prosecutions of violations of state and federal law will continue.”

Montel Williams to push for medical marijuana

Category: Celebrities | Posted on Thu, January, 20th 2011 by THCFinder

Delegate Dan Morhaim said Williams, who is a multiple sclerosis patient, is scheduled to attend a news conference in Annapolis on Monday.

Morhaim, a Baltimore County Democrat, and Sen. David Brinkley, a Frederick County Republican, plan to introduce a measure to allow marijuana to be used under well-defined circumstances for bona fide medical purposes.

In 2003, Maryland approved a law limiting sentencing to a $100 fine for people who use marijuana if they have a medical excuse. But critics of that law say it still drives people whose pain could be alleviated by marijuana into alleys to buy from drug dealers.
