Romney: "I am not in favor of medical marijuana"

Romney like every other politician runs out before answering a crucial question by a man in a wheel chair asking a very simple and straight forth question. You have to ask yourself, what kind of person runs away from someone asking a question sitting in a wheel chair?

 

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told a man with a chronic disease that he opposes his right to use medical marijuana to help with his condition.
 
In a video posted on YouTube, a patient with Muscular Dystrophy asks Romney if he would “arrest me and my doctors” if his physicians prescribed medical marijuana. Clayton Holton is the young man who tells Romney he weighs 80 pounds and that traditional prescription medication doesn’t work. Romney asks him if synthetic marijuana works; Holton tells him that it makes him vomit.
 
Once Romney announces that he opposes medical marijuana and quickly moves on to others in the crowd, leaving Holton trying to ask further questions, Watch the video below.

Poll: One-Third of Texans Favor Legalizing Marijuana

Thirty-three percent of likely voters and the same percentage of all Texans support legalizing and marijuana, according to a new poll conducted by University of Texas researchers and sponsored by the Texas Lyceum.
 
“One-third is more support than I would have predicted for it,” pollster and UT-Austin professor Darren Shaw told KUT News. “It either says something about the subtlety of opinion in Texas, or it says something about how significant the budget crunch is now.”
 
Possession of less than two ounces of marijuana is currently a Class B Misdemeanor in Texas, punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine, according to the an analysis by the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws.  A bill that would have lowered that fine to $500 died in committee during the regular legislative session.
 
Shaw says that while support for higher income taxes and other traditional sources of government revenue remains low, there appears to be growing popularity for so-called "sin taxes," such as excises on gambling, alcohol and tobacco.
 
The percentage of Texans who said they support some expansion to gambling increased to 59 percent this year, compared to 50 percent in the 2010 edition of the survey.

Montel Williams Opens Marijuana Dispensary In Sacramento

On Monday, Williams appeared in Sacramento to announce a partnership with a new enterprise, a medical marijuana dispensary.
 
In a news conference at the newly renovated offices of the former Capital Wellness Center, Williams spoke about his own battle with multiple sclerosis and why he turned to marijuana to alleviate near-constant neurological pain.
 
"Prescription drugs nearly shut down my kidneys. Then a doctor suggested I try medical marijuana," said Williams, who credits pot for improving his health and well-being.
 
Williams – a recent guest host of "Good Day Sacramento" on Channel 31 (KMAX) – led a tour of the new Albatin Wellness Cooperative at 29th and U streets in the Newton Booth neighborhood of midtown. He was accompanied by a Harvard-trained physician, Dr. Alan Shackelford, who specializes in medical marijuana.
 
"We've been caught up in culture surrounding medical marijuana that's 20 years old," Williams said. "While adhering to every single state law, we want to provide safe access for patients and really medicalize this. Patients should be put first."
 
He decided to partner with the marijuana cooperative's director, Aundre Speciale, a friend he met two years ago and with whom he shares a philosophy of making medical marijuana available along with patient counseling and a standardized product.
 
The host of "The Montel Williams Show," which aired from 1991 to 2008, said he would be "involved at every level of the cooperative, from the philosophical direction down to the blueprints."
 
Williams said he wants to change the stigma surrounding doctor-prescribed pot use.
 
"It's absurd. I can go get morphine pumped into my system and nobody's got a problem," he said. "But all of a sudden they're really worried if I smoked a joint."

MJ patients not safe from being fired!

The courts have ruled in WA that regardless of your medical condition and status, if you use medical marijuana you can and most likely will be fired from any company who chooses to enforce their drug policies. The private life we once had is no gone, apparently what we do on our own free time can get us fired at the workplace. 

 

The Washington State Supreme Court concluded that an employer’s drug policy trumps the state medical marijuana law. The court ruled that Washington employers can terminate an employee who fails a drug test, even if it’s due to medical marijuana use.

 

What Happened.“Roe” was offered a position as a customer service representative for TeleTech. Roe was given a copy of the company’s drug policy, which stated that all employees must pass a drug test. Roe informed TeleTech that she used medical marijuana, offered a copy of her doctor’s authorization form—which the company declined—and took the drug test.
 
Roe began training on October 10, 2006, the same day her drug test came back positive. Her supervisor notified corporate headquarters, who confirmed that there are no exceptions for medical marijuana. On October 18, 2006, Roe was terminated.
 
Roe took TeleTech to court claiming wrongful termination. Roe argued that her termination was in violation of the state Medical Use of Marijuana Act (MUMA) and was in violation of a clear public policy allowing medical marijuana use in compliance with MUMA. TeleTech argued that MUMA’s purpose is to protect users and physicians from criminal prosecution under state drug laws, not to entitle users to employment protections.
 
What the Court Said. The Washington State Supreme Court agreed with the lower courts, ruling that MUMA does not provide a private cause of action for discharge of an employee who uses medical marijuana, nor does the law create a clear public policy that would support a claim for wrongful discharge in violation of such a policy. Instead, the court noted, MUMA was created to provide an affirmative defense to state criminal prosecutions of qualified medical marijuana users. The Court's holding applies regardless of whether the employee's marijuana use was while working or while off-site during non-work time. Roe v. TeleTech Customer Care Mgmt. S. Ct. WA, No. 83768-6 (2011).

Miracle-Gro Wants To Help You Grow Your Medical Marijuana

Medical marijuana is legal in 16 states and will reportedly account for nearly $2 billion in sales this year. And even though marijuana growers use any number of major brand-name plant products on their crops, the big companies have shied away from acknowledging this fact... and they certainly don't openly market to them. But the CEO of Scotts Miracle-Gro wants to change that.
 
"I want to target the pot market," said Scotts CEO Jim Hagedorn. "There's no good reason we haven't."

“To target marijuana growers, Scotts would likely buy niche dirt companies that already exist rather than create its own line of branded products.
Raids on pot-growing operations have turned up Scotts products. Mr. Hagedorn takes that as a good sign of brand awareness, but he fears that some growers would be reluctant to use a mainstream product.”
