Approval needed for marijuana research on campus

Category: Medical Marijuana | Posted on Thu, June, 6th 2013 by THCFinder
Despite a recent amendment in Arizona law, a UA researcher must continue to wait for federal approval before conducting medical marijuana research.

Dr. Sue Sisley, assistant director of interprofessional education and assistant professor of internal medicine and psychiatry, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration two years ago to study the effect of cannabis on veterans who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder.

However, the FDA’s approval is one of many regulations Sisley will need to get through in order to move forward with the study.

Although Arizona voters approved the use of medical marijuana in 2010, an Arizona law was passed in 2012 that prohibited the possession and use of medical marijuana on college campuses.

After realizing the law didn’t make exceptions for marijuana research, UA administration urged the state to adopt a statute allowing such research on college campuses.

Vet recommends medical marijuana for pets in pain

Category: Medical Marijuana | Posted on Thu, June, 6th 2013 by THCFinder
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Until she introduced "magic cheese" to her sick and aging bulldog, Laura Bugni-Daniel watched him suffer for two years. He'd spend his days lying down or throwing up.

Today, at age 12, he plays like a puppy through the day, his fur is soft and he sleeps at night, soothed not by magic, but by the dose of marijuana in that cheese.

Bugni-Daniel is part of a growing movement to give medical marijuana to pets in pain. Many urge caution until there's better science behind it. But stories abound about changes in sick and dying pets after they've been given cannabis — even though it isn't a proven pain killer for man or mutt, and it's an illicit drug under federal law despite being legal for people in 19 states and the District of Columbia.

Leading the charge is Los Angeles veterinarian Doug Kramer, 36, known as the "Vet Guru," who felt it was his duty to speak out while he has no family that would feel a verbal or financial backlash.

NY Mom Accused of Growing $3M Marijuana Business

Category: News | Posted on Thu, June, 6th 2013 by THCFinder
The New York City mom accused of growing marijuana after the feds raided a Queens warehouse might have tried to grow marijuana in two other New York City boroughs, law enforcement officials said.

Andrea Sanderlin's telephone number was listed on the Con Edison account for properties in the Bronx and Brooklyn. The electric utility said both of the accounts "had unusually high usage when they were active," which federal agents said would be consistent with a facility's "being used to grow marijuana."

Her electric bills at the Queens warehouse also bolstered suspicion that led to last month's raid.

As Sanderlin, 45, was placed under arrest May 20 by a Drug Enforcement Administration strike force at the warehouse in Queens, where she allegedly grew $3 million worth of marijuana, agents noticed her nanny and her younger child leaving the family home in Scarsdale, N.Y., a wealthy New York City suburb.
