Florida Bill Would Allow Medical Marijuana For Child Seizures

Category: Medical Marijuana | Posted on Thu, January, 16th 2014 by THCFinder
florida-bill-mmj-child-seizuresFlorida may soon become the latest state to allow doctors to prescribe marijuana. Advocates there are gathering signatures to put a medical marijuana referendum on the fall ballot.
But Florida's Legislature may act sooner to allow residents access to a particular type of marijuana. Advocates say the strain called Charlotte's Web offers hope to children with severe seizure disorders.
Paige Figi is a Colorado mom whose young daughter Charlotte suffers from Dravet syndrome. It's a debilitating genetic disease that left the little girl unable to walk, talk or eat. Figi says an oil extracted from a particular strain of marijuana has helped save her daughter's life.
"Charlotte is doing great," says Figi, who was in Tallahassee, Fla., to testify at a legislative hearing. "She's two years in to treatment. I would have brought her here, but she can't leave Colorado."
That's because the marijuana extract her daughter depends on can't legally be transported across state lines.
It's from a variety of marijuana with very little tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the primary component that produces the high. Instead, the strain has very high amounts of another compound — cannabidiol, or CBD.
A few years ago, Figi told legislators, her daughter was having 300 seizures a week. After trying every drug and therapy she and her husband could think of, they started Charlotte on a marijuana extract that contained high amounts of CBD. She takes just a few milligrams of the oil each day in her food.
The results have been dramatic, Figi says. "She's 99 percent — almost 100 percent — seizure-free," she adds. "She has about one or two seizures a month now, [down] from 1,200."
But the marijuana extract isn't a cure. Charlotte and others with Dravet have a genetic disease they'll have forever. Figi says her daughter will never drive a car, marry or live independently.
But Charlotte used to have to rely on a feeding tube, Figi says, and now can eat and drink on her own. She has friends and a vastly improved quality of life.

Marijuana An Effective Treatment For Neuropathic Pain, Says New Study

Category: Medical Marijuana | Posted on Thu, January, 16th 2014 by THCFinder
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel group study published in this month’s issue of the European Journal of Pain, and published online early by the National Institute of Health, has found that cannabis can significantly reduce pain and improve sleep in those with neuropathic pain.
For the study; “303 patients with PNP (peripheral neuropathic pain) associated with allodynia were screened; 128 were randomized to THC/CBD spray and 118 to placebo, in addition to their current analgesic therapy.”
After conducting the study, which used a spray made from THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol), both compounds of cannabis, researchers found that “a meaningful proportion of otherwise treatment-resistant patients, clinically important improvements in pain, sleep quality and SGIC of the severity of their condition are obtained with THC/CBD spray. THC/CBD spray was well tolerated and no new safety concerns were identified.”

Appeal of the Straight Tube

Category: Culture | Posted on Thu, January, 16th 2014 by THCFinder
With so many different forms of glass out there, stoners have all different views on what's the best and what's not so good. Some stoners prefer the crazy designs that are being released these days but one can't really argue with the simplistic design of the good old fashioned straight tube bong. They're simple, hard hitting, and very easy to clean, making the straight tube the perfect piece for that semi lazy stoner... Or the stoner who just wants to keep it simple and get extremely baked in the best way possible... With a bong.
The straight tube is most often compared to the beaker, as they are similar in their looks. However, some stoners claim that the beaker gives the smoker a bigger hit than the straight tube because their bases are bigger, providing more room for bubbles to form and filter the smoke. The allure of the straight tube? They fill up with some serious milk! This provides dense smoke, but less of it. The beaker gives you more smoke but tends not to be as dense as the straight tubes are. Either way, the two are quite similar but it seems that stoners really like the straight tube and the dense smoke.
Since the straight tubes are... Well, straight, they're far easier to clean than any other bong. Most parts are removable and you can reach every inch of glass with rubbing alcohol and epsom salt or whatever it is that you use to clean your glass. It is agreed that the best size of straight tube, both for smoking ability and the easy access for cleaning. These solid pieces are easy to move as well as conceal so transporting them is never really an issue. The best thing about straight tubes is that they can come with percs and you can buy ashcatchers so no one can say that your straight tube is "boring".
The straight tube will always be a favorite among stoners of all ages. It's simple and easy, two things that stoners seem to really enjoy. Especially since the straight tube bong tends to be one of the cheaper ones, even if bought from a high end company. The straight tube provides an awesome high and definitely deserves a spot in your glass collection. It definitely has perks in the stoner world to have an easy to clean glass piece that hits well and looks nice!
