White House Lifts Research Restrictions on Medical Marijuana

Category: Medical Marijuana | Posted on Tue, June, 23rd 2015 by THCFinder

Uncle Sam is finally offering researchers a more assessable approach to studying the medicinal benefits of marijuana. On Monday, the Obama Administration announced that it would no longer force the scientific community to endure some of the bureaucratic red tape that has prevented many of them from studying the potential health benefits of the herb for nearly 20 years.

In an official notice, which is expected to be published on Tuesday, the White House said that it is eliminating the necessity for researchers to undergo a separate Public Health Service Review—a process that has been required since 1999 as part of the approval requirements for marijuana research.

Reports indicate the decision was made to eliminate this obstacle because the current politics surrounding medical marijuana have overshadowed the necessity for these guidelines.

“The Obama Administration has actively supported scientific research on whether marijuana or its components can be safe and effective medicine,” Mario Zepeda, a spokesperson for the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), told The Huffington Post. “Eliminating the Public Health Service review should help facilitate additional research to advance our understanding of both the adverse effects and potential therapeutic uses for marijuana or its components.”

California Marijuana Growers Have To Respect The Environment Or Get Heavily Fined

Category: Culture | Posted on Tue, June, 23rd 2015 by THCFinder

fined marijuana fineGrowing marijuana can be very harmful for the environment unless proper precautionary steps are taken. A lot of outdoor marijuana growers think that if they buy a piece of land, that they can do whatever they want. That is not the case, as some people in California are learning the hard way. Outdoor marijuana growers need to be good stewards of not only the land that they are growing on, but also to the ground water and waterways that go beyond their property’s borders.

A lot of growers have a ‘get mine, and the hell with yours’ mentality. They are in it for the profit, and nothing else. That’s not to say that all growers are that way, because that’s certainly not the case. But there are more than a few bad apples out there that follow practices that make it harder for the rest of us. California recently issued a massive fine to some growers that didn’t follow environmental rules. Per Courthouse News:

A California board that protects water from degradation by marijuana farms has issued its first fine: $297,400 against a landowner and a contractor in Shasta County. It’s the first penalty issued by the multi-agency Cannabis Pilot Project, staffed by state and regional water boards and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board announced the fine Friday. The Cannabis Pilot project was formed specifically to address adverse environmental impacts caused by marijuana cultivation in California

Survey Says Pot Prices Are Crashing in Colorado

Category: News | Posted on Tue, June, 23rd 2015 by THCFinder

Colorado's recreational marijuana market is now over a year old, and while it continues to grow, a new survey has found that pot prices are dropping faster than most expected.

According to global brokerage company Convergex, increased competition and the expansion of grow facilities are contributing factors in the price decline, but it's also "a natural result for any maturing industry as dispensaries try to find the market's equilibrium price."

"Since last June, the average price of an 1/8th ounce of recreational cannabis has dropped from $50-$70 to $30-$45 currently; an ounce now sells for between $250 and $300 on average compared to $300-$400 last year," Convergex reported.

But Bloomberg Business noted that even with these declining prices, this year's sales of recreational marijuana are still exceeding those of last year and the number of people visiting dispensaries has increased.
