Seed To Sale: Oregon Cannabis Business Seminar

Beginning in 2016, the Oregon Liquor Control Commission will be requiring cannabis cultivators, processors, distributors and dispensary owners to apply for licenses, and the Oregon Health Authority will have a similar process. The City of Portland has also created a separate license for cannabis businesses, and other districts may do the same. With multiple licenses to obtain, and a myriad of regulatory hoops to jump through, navigating this newly legal space is going to be a challenge for anyone seeking to fun a cannabis business. If you are planning to apply for either a medical or recreational license in the industry, you will almost certainly need some guidance, and it often takes a team of advisors to stay up to date on the seemingly ever-changing regulations. This Saturday, December 5th, Gleam Law will be hosting Seed to Sale, an Oregon Cannabis Business Seminar on starting, operating, and protecting a licensed cannabis business. Held at Hotel Monaco in downtown Portland, this event will take place from 1-5pm. There will be time for networking afterwards, with a hosted bar and light food available, as well as discounted hotel rooms for seminar attendees.

As many entrepreneurs are making moves to enter into the legal cannabis market, I believe it’s becoming apparent that just producing exceptional cannabis will not be enough to succeed in this increasingly competitive industry; there are over 300 medical dispensaries in Oregon, and enough producers and processors to keep them stocked. An equally exceptional business plan, marketing plan, and legal team will be necessary to stay afloat in this emerging market. The OLCC has released a Business Readiness Guidebook for Oregon Recreational Marijuana Operations online, but unless you’re an expert in employment law, land use and zoning regulations, and operating a business, you’ll need some assistance wading through the 30 pages of information and links.

Canada Health Minister Is Exploring Regulatory Models for Nationwide Pot Reform

Category: News | Posted on Mon, November, 30th 2015 by THCFinder

Canada heath officials are not wasting any time getting into the pertinent details for how the country might establish a taxed and regulated cannabis market.

Earlier last week, just as the United States was preparing to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, the northern nation’s Minister of Health, Jane Philpott, told CBC News that the Canadian government was already wrist deep in an exploratory expedition to find the appropriate regulatory model for bringing prohibition to end across the land.

However, convinced "the world is going to be looking to Canada to make sure we do the job well,” the nation’s leading heath officer admits to having some troubles pinpointing a model that addresses every concern. She says a task force of scientists and medical professionals was currently being assembled to assist her in hashing out the issue.

Michigan Marijuana Activists Shine At National Events

Category: News | Posted on Sun, November, 29th 2015 by THCFinder

michigan marijuana activistsThe national marijuana movement has some established personalities and Conference regulars, but more and more of those personalities are Michigan residents.

The Drug Policy Alliance (DPA) conference in Washington, D.C. saw a broad contingent of Michigan speakers and attendees- and will again; a recent conference in Las Vegas had at least one Michigander on the microphone; and it’s been a busy year for one of our community’s brightest couples.

DPA’s conference is a major annual event. This year a large number of activists from Michigan made their presence felt, both as medical marijuana patients and legalization advocates. MILegalize had Board members Matt Abel, Josey Scoggin, Chuck Ream, Michael Tuffelmire and Nick Zettell on the ground and representing the grass-roots effort to legalize marijuana in Michigan. Brenda Scoggin and Dakota Serna were in attendance, too.

It’s been an amazing year for Dakota and Josey. Josey (Sons and Daughters United) has been shouldering a huge burden on her young shoulders as the petition coordinator for the MILegalize campaign while making public appearances and collecting signatures herself. Dakota has emerged nationally as a voice for veterans and the therapeutic use of medicinal cannabis. The duo have spoken at conferences in Washington State, California and D.C. in 2015, and their schedule will probably be even more hectic in 2016.
