Cannabis is Not a Gateway Drug, Admits U.S. Attorney General

Category: News | Posted on Fri, September, 23rd 2016 by THCFinder

In a statement made a recent town hall in Richmond, Kentucky, U.S. Attorney General Lorett Lynch admitted that cannabis is not a gateway drug, which is one of the most prominent arguments made in opposition to legalizing cannabis (that it leads to the use of harder drugs).

During the town hall in Richmond, being held as part of President Obama’s National Prescription Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week (quite a mouth full), Lynch was asked by a Madison Central High School student whether she believes that the use of cannabis among students will lead to opioid abuse.

“There a lot of discussion about marijuana these days”, Lynch stated. “Some states are making it legal, people are looking into medical uses for it, and I understand that it still is as common as almost anything. When we talk about heroin addiction, we unusually, as we have mentioned, are talking about individuals that started out with a prescription drug problem, and then because they need more and more, they turn to heroin. It isn’t so much that marijuana is the step right before using prescription drugs or opioids.”

Colorado Medical Pot Law Poised to Add PTSD as Qualifier

Category: Medical Marijuana | Posted on Fri, September, 23rd 2016 by THCFinder

DENVER (AP) — Marijuana pioneer Colorado is poised to add post-traumatic stress disorder to its medical marijuana program, joining 18 other states that consider PTSD a condition treatable by pot.

A panel of state lawmakers voted 5-0 Wednesday to endorse the addition of PTSD to Colorado’s 2000 medical pot law. The vote doesn’t have legal effect; it’s just a recommendation to the full Legislature, which resumes work in January. But the vote indicates a dramatic shift for a state that has allowed medical pot for more than a decade but hasn’t endorsed its use for PTSD.

1st City in Tennessee Decriminalizes Pot Possession

Category: Legalization | Posted on Thu, September, 22nd 2016 by THCFinder

Nashville is destined to become the first city in Tennessee to eliminate the criminal penalties associated with the possession of marijuana.

On Tuesday, the Metro Council gave final approval for a decriminalization ordinance that was designed to stop those people busted with up to a half-ounce of weed from being carted off to jail. The measure, which advanced in a vote of 35-to-3, would simply give officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department the ability to slap minor pot offenders with a $50 fine or 10 hours of community service rather than entering them into the criminal justice system.

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry, who previously stated that she is “generally supportive” of decriminalization ordinances, told the Tennessean that she plans to sign the measure into law.
