Driving while under the influence of marijuana is a big deal right now. But if driving while stoned is so dangerous, why is driving drunk promoted by establishments like bars and clubs? Even if you don't think that that's promoting drunk driving, there are far more people who do it then there should be. Driving while drunk is absolutely nothing like driving stoned.
Alcohol greatly effects the motor skills, as well as the way your brain process information. Some drunks see double, as well as slur their speech and stumble around their own feet. Getting behind the wheel of a car in this state is deadly. The individual has a slow reaction time and is unable to process the quickly changing surroundings. There really is no benefit to driving while drunk. It is extremely dangerous to yourself and the people around you. The alcohol greatly inhibits the decision making part of the brain as well, so that even if you do get in to an accident, there is a chance that your drunk self will tell you to bail, rather than staying behind to deal with the consequences. Seriously, read up on some of the drunk driving accidents that have happened. You will be shocked.
The drivers that are under the influence of marijuana aren't going to swerve suddenly and take out an oncoming car. Driving stoned can help some people to deal with the crazy drivers that seem to overtake the road. It decreases some peoples' anxious feelings about driving and can be a good way to tone down stress on trips. However, it is highly recommended that you take driving stoned very seriously. Learning to drive high is like learning how to drive all over again. There have been studies released saying that driving while under the influence of cannabis is comparable to driving while taking allergy medicine. While some say that cannabis is a mind altering substance, the only altering I feel that is does is alter road rage out of the driver's mind. No one has time to be mad when they're high.
It's safe to say that driving while stoned is far safer. There has never been an accident proven to have solely been caused by marijuana. Drunk driving kills hundreds of people a year, both those that are driving and the innocent bystanders that suffer from it. It's always best to drive sober but if you must pick one, I would have to say that driving stoned is a better option than driving while drunk. In general, I suggest picking up a blunt and putting down the bottle.
