A Very Big California Marijuana Legalization Announcement Is Coming Tomorrow

California is the biggest marijuana legalization domino that is in play for 2016. I have had many conversations with members of the mainstream media about California, and I have said many times that many people will measure the success of the 2016 campaign by whether or not California succeeds. Several states could legalize in 2016, and while I think that even one state would be a huge victory, many others will consider it bittersweet if California fails to legalize again.

As seems to always be the case with legalization efforts in this decade, there are several efforts in California. The most high profile one to date is Reform California, which has funding and a very strong campaign team. However, there’s supposed to be a long awaited announcement coming out of California tomorrow, with California billionaire Sean Parker and friends throwing their hat into the race. The initiative is reported to be backed by the Drug Policy Alliance, the Marijuana Policy Project, and WeedMaps founder Justin Hartfield who has already pledged 2 million dollars to a marijuana legalization campaign of his choosing (which it sounds like he is choosing this one).

Having a lot of money is important in politics, and this initiative will certainly have a bunch, but it’s not the only thing that it will take to push this initiative over the top. It will take a very well written initiative, and a strong campaign team to ensure victory. It sounds like the initiative that is going to be announced tomorrow will have those in addition to a hefty bank account. Anything that the Drug Policy Alliance is involved with is usually very solid. The San Francisco Chronicle received an advanced summary of the initiative, highlights of which are below:

On Ballot, Ohio Grapples With Specter of Marijuana Monopoly

Category: Medical Marijuana | Posted on Sun, November, 1st 2015 by THCFinder

COLUMBUS, Ohio — As a member of theInternational Cannabinoid Research Society, a collector of antique marijuana apothecary jars, the founder of an industrial hemp business and “a pot smoker consistently for 47 years,” Don Wirtshafter, an Ohio lawyer, has fought for decades to make marijuana legal, calling it “my life’s work.”

But when Ohio voters go to the polls Tuesday to consider a constitutional amendment to allow marijuana for both medical and personal use, Mr. Wirtshafter will vote against it.

Issue 3, as the proposed amendment is known, is bankrolled by wealthy investors spending nearly $25 million to put it on the ballot and sell it to voters. If it passes, they will have exclusive rights to growing commercial marijuana in Ohio. The proposal has a strange bedfellows coalition of opponents: law enforcement officers worried about crime, doctors worried about children’s health, state lawmakers and others who warn that it would enshrine a monopoly in the Ohio Constitution.

Meet Jeff Mizanskey At The Industry Celebration And Benefit Event In Vegas Next Month

Category: Events | Posted on Sat, October, 31st 2015 by THCFinder

jeff mizanskey dan vietsI am a big fan of Jeff Mizanskey. For those that are not familiar with Jeff Mizanskey, he was sentenced to life in prison in Missouri for non-violent, marijuana-only offenses. After serving over two decades of that prison sentence, and after a very concerted effort by cannabis activists and his family, Jeff Mizanskey was freed earlier this year. Since then Mr. Mizanskey has been making public appearances all over the place, and it makes my heart skip a beat each time I see his name on a schedule.

The 4th annual Marijuana Business Conference and Expo is coming to Vegas next month, and as part of the event Marijuana Business Daily is putting on a celebration and fundraiser for reform organizations, and Jeff Mizanskey is going to be the special guest of the evening (go get ’em Missouri!). I was able to get press passes to the conference, but as of right now don’t have tickets to this fundraiser. If that changes, I hope to see as many TWB readers there as possible. Tickets are $125 a piece, so hopefully I can scrum up some funds between now and then. I don’t normally have extra money, but all the proceeds from this event go to reform organizations, so if I have to collect pop cans to get in there, then so be it. And if not, you should still go to shake Jeff Mizanskey’s hand! Below is more about the event, via the event’s webpage:

Join us for an unforgettable evening of celebration and networking, and help raise over $100,000 toward ending cannabis prohibition!
