Smoking lots of marijuana lowers risk for bladder cancer, doctor says

Category: Medical Marijuana | Posted on Mon, May, 13th 2013 by THCFinder
A new study that spanned 11 years found that smoking marijuana may lower the chances of getting bladder cancer.

The study’s not been peer-reviewed yet, USA Today reported. It involved 83,000 men who smoked marijuana, cigarettes or both, Raw Story reported.

The findings, presented at the American Urological Association, found that men who smoked cigarettes increased their risks of bladder cancer, but that men who smoked marijuana only actually decreased their risks, Raw Story reported. Further, the study found that men who smoked both still have a higher chance of bladder cancer, but it was still a lower chance than those who smoked only cigarettes, Raw Story said.

“Cannabis use only was associated with a 45 percent reduction in bladder cancer incidence, and tobacco use only was associated with a 52 percent increase in bladder cancer,” the study’s author, Dr. Anil Thomas, said, Raw Story reported.
And smoking a lot of marijuana brought the greatest positive results.

Those who smoked marijuana more than 500 times a year had even less risk of bladder cancer than those who smoked the drug only once in a while

8 in 10 Kentuckians support medical marijuana

Category: Medical Marijuana | Posted on Mon, May, 13th 2013 by THCFinder
Nearly 8 in 10 Kentuckians think residents should be able to purchase marijuana for medical purposes if their doctor recommends it, according to the 2012 Kentucky Health Issues Poll.

More than 4 in 10 adults in Kentucky support having lawmakers make the decision on whether the drug should be legal for medical uses, according to the poll. About the same number say voters should decide the issue.

The findings have some health officials concerned.

“The Food & Drug Administration lists marijuana in the most restricted category of the Controlled Substance Act, meaning it has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States, and is not safe for use, even under medical supervision,” said Mary Francis, director of the Assistance for Substance Abuse Prevention Center. “Marijuana plants contain over 400 chemicals, some of which are known carcinogens.”

Weed Smoking Mummies & Half Baked Monstrosities

Category: Fun | Posted on Mon, May, 13th 2013 by THCFinder

The Top Movie Monsters with a Cannabis Twist

A Mummy’s crypt dug up in central Asia recently threw up a few new ideas about cannabis use in ancient history. There are a lot of theories that get thrown around pretty regularly about how the ancient emperors of China extoled the virtuous healing properties of cannabis for everything from rheumatism to gout, but it seems to overshadow so often the fact that it was clearly used for recreation in many areas.

What the real question is however, is not whether this mummified connoisseur had arthritis or just wanted to party in the afterlife. Oh no… the real question is: what would the horror films have been like had the antagonistic ghouls and ghosts been as big fans of the reefer as this mummified fellow? The movies would certainly have been a shade different…

The Mummy

How would you feel if you woke from a 3 thousand year slumber to find that someone had made off with your dank? Well… first of all you would wonder how much you actually smoked that night 30 centuries ago, and then you’d go in search for some breakfast. But after that you would be pretty steamed about the whole affair.

Of course in the films the mummy goes in search of a reincarnation of his past love, but we now know the truth about these stoner mummies. After waiting 3 thousand years he would have no doubt set about finding a fresh batch of weed and chilling out.

Now… does anybody have any wraps?

The Mummy’s Weed Choice:

Without doubt his favourite seedbank would have been Pyramid Seeds.

Frankenstein

Perhaps if Victor Frankenstein had decided to study botany instead of chemistry and alchemy he might not have created the monstrosity that went on to terrorise him throughout his life.

During his creation of the monster, he spent a great deal of time digging up bodies, mixing chemicals and generally being surrounded by gigantic seemingly useless tesla coils (if the movie adaptations are anything to go by.)

Now, if Frankie had taken the time to RELAX then I’m sure all would have gone far more smoothly for him. Replace the chemicals with natural fertilisers and the tesla coils with grow lamps and his genetic tinkering could have resulted in something beautiful. Like a new high THC strain.

The Doctors Weed Choice:

Perhaps the good doctor would have been a fan of DNA Genetics seeds.

The State of Colorado Relaxes its Marijuana Laws

Category: Legalization | Posted on Mon, May, 13th 2013 by THCFinder

Archaic Cannabis Laws

The old outdated laws that criminalise cannabis use are regarded by many in North America to be laws that have past their time and need to be revised for many reasons, if not only the absurd reasons that it was banned in the first place. It was claimed in The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 that: “Two weeks ago a sex-mad degenerate, named Lee Fernandez, brutally attacked a young Alamosa girl. He was convicted of assault with intent to rape and sentenced to 10 to 14 years in the state penitentiary. Police officers here know definitely that Fernandez was under the influence of marihuana” and silly statements such as “…a boy and a girl…lost their senses so completely after smoking marihuana that they eloped and were married” and “It is commonly used as an aphrodisiac, and its continued use leads to impotency”. These obviously ridiculous statements are idiotic reasons to still keep marijuana under an illegal status.

Amendment 64

Thanks to the help of the annual 420 rallies America has made major steps in legalising cannabis and the latest of these steps happened in Colorado in 2012. In Colorado it is now legal to possess and carry a small amount of marijuana. Marijuana hasn’t been made legal but the new amendment, amendment 64, has been passed decriminalising the possession of small amounts of cannabis.

Denver 420 Rally

To celebrate amendment 64 the city of Denver Colorado decided to host a massive 420 rally in 2013 which a reported 80,000 people attended. The 420 rallies are set in cities all over North America annually on 20th April. The purpose of the rallies are to peacefully demonstrate and put the point across to the government that there are many thousands or millions of people that want to see marijuana legalised. Although the 420 rallies in Denver were marred by a shooting incident this incident was not associated with the struggle to legalise cannabis.

The First Annual United States Cannabis Cup

The cannabis cup is a major event in Europe already, but until 2013 there hadn’t been an official annual cannabis cup in the United States. With the recent relaxation of cannabis laws in Colorado, as well as its first 420 rally, Denver also decided to host the first annual United States cannabis cup. The cannabis cup event makes awards to marijuana breeders for new or great strains of marijuana. Great strains such as the now famous Iced Grapefruit strain have made their name in the cannabis cup and have now become favourites of many pot smokers all over the world.

Marijuana legalisation advantages to the US economy

The legalisation of marijuana would bring a lot of advantages to the American economy. The largest of these advantages would be the ability for the government to tax the sales of marijuana and marijuana products such as marijuana seeds. The marijuana trade which currently benefits organised crime is a multi-billion dollar industry and would bring billions of dollars in tax revenue to the American government, which they could then spend on things such as health and education.
