Uruguay will Begin Selling Marijuana in Pharmacies this Summer

Category: Legalization | Posted on Thu, April, 13th 2017 by THCFinder

Uruguay will begin selling marijuana in pharmacies this summer, the final stage in the country’s pioneering regulation and normalization of marijuana. The South American country will be the first in the world to legally sell cannabis over the counter for recreational use.  In fact, their president was even nominated for a Nobel Prize after the country legalized cannabis.

Uruguay voted to legalize marijuana in 2013. They were the first country in the world to do so. Instantly there were reports that grams of marijuana would sell for as low as one dollar in Uruguay, and that sales would occur very quickly. Time has shown that launching legal sales in Uruguay has taken longer than expected, and has been discussing these sales for quite a while now.

NY Court Rules Cops Can Seize Facebook Info

Category: News | Posted on Thu, April, 13th 2017 by THCFinder

Be careful what you say on Facebook. New York state’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, ruled on April 4 that law enforcement can seize private account information from the social networking site. With the decision, Facebook lost its years-long legal battle to block search warrants from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office seeking access to hundreds of user accounts, the New York Post reports.

The 5-1 majority upheld two lower-court rulings that said only users themselves have the right to challenge warrants in criminal proceedings—not Facebook, the company. But, in a wonderful catch-22, the warrants in the case are subject to a gag order—so Facebook was not even allowed to warn users about that the cops were accessing their information. The court has stated the only remedy for Facebook users is to sue for invasion of privacy after the fact.

Florida Pot Monopoly Compared to a ‘Cartel’

Category: News | Posted on Wed, April, 12th 2017 by THCFinder

Medical marijuana in the state of Florida is a real-life game of Monopoly, but one where a few players already have all the properties in hand before the first die is thrown.

While other states where cannabis is legal allow for competition among those who produce and sell medical marijuana—a lucrative position to be in, we’re told time and again—Florida allows a mere seven companies to hold the exclusive rights to produce and sell all the cannabis in the state. That’s a corner of the market that will serve a population of 21 million people (many of them senior citizens, one of the very market segments the cannabis industry is expecting to expand dramatically)—and they’re in this position, holding all the railroads as well as all the key properties from Baltic to Boardwalk, thanks to state government.

The Miami New Times is bringing attention to this “de-facto monopoly”—which is also attracting international attention from ambitious would-be international cannabis conglomerates.
