Hemp Injunction Against Alex White Plume Lifted

Category: News | Posted on Thu, March, 31st 2016 by THCFinder

In 2000, when the Oglala Lakota tribe passed a tribal initiative clearing the way for legal hemp agriculture on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota, two crops were planted. One was grown by the Slim Buttes Land-Use Association; the other was grown by the family of Alex White Plume on their family land. The hemp never made it to harvest. In August of that same year, heavily armed DEA, FBI and local and tribal police raided both of the hemp fields and hauled the plants away.

The raid hardly deterred the White Plume family. The next year they planted their fields again with hemp. But, again, the crops were raided and seized. They tried once more in 2002 and were raided a third time. At that point, the Feds had enough and slapped Alex White Plume, a former tribal president, with an injunction preventing him from planting seeds again.

Vets get free marijuana in Colorado Springs to fight pain & PTSD

Category: News | Posted on Wed, March, 30th 2016 by THCFinder

A cannabis club in Colorado Springs is handing out free marijuana to military veterans, hoping to give them relief from issues like post-traumatic stress disorder and chronic pain they suffer from after returning home from deployment in war zones.

Over the weekend, the Veteran Farmers Alliance group handed out more than half a pound of pot and marijuana edibles – worth about $1,400 – to veterans in Colorado Springs. The group’s founder, Steve Defino, said other groups should also be doing the same thing and that marijuana was essential for him to deal with his PTSD, which he has fought for a decade.

“I’ve been able to actually go through my memories, recall my memories without getting upset anymore, and I’m starting to live my life again like a normal person,” Defino said in an interview with KXRM, which reported on the pot giveaway.

ArcView Market Research, the leading publisher of cannabis market research and information in partnership with New Frontier, the cannabis Big Data and analytics authority, has released the 4th edition of the State of Legal Marijuana Markets, which shows that the legal cannabis industry is one of the fastest growing industries in America with a compound annual growth rate of 31%. The official 2015 ArcView market estimate is $5.7 billion, up from $4.6 billion in 2014. Oregon adult use sales began in October of 2015, and combined with medical sales, the legal market brought in $264.8 million. By the end of 2016, the total legal market is projected to be $481.7 million.

“The state’s decision to allow limited adult use sales through existing dispensaries in advance of recreational sales, which are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2016 have helped boost revenues for the 85% of dispensaries that opted into the program and provided an early indication of the demand expected when the full adult use market activates.” said Troy Dayton, CEO of The ArcView Group.

“Oregon is on the frontier of the cannabis legalization movement. It was the first to decriminalize small amounts of cannabis, one of the first to legalize medical marijuana, and it was third to allow adult use sales. It will be quite interesting to see how they do in 2016, their first full year of recreational sales,” said Giadha DeCarcer, Founder and CEO of New Frontier.
