Relief elusive for N.J.'s youngest medical marijuana patient

Category: Medical Marijuana | Posted on Sun, May, 19th 2013 by THCFinder
SCOTCH PLAINS — Two-year-old Vivian Wilson sleeps with a heart and oxygen monitor attached to her toe. When she wakes up, the toddler must wear an eye patch and be kept from direct sunlight. An overnight bag, oxygen tanks and other medical equipment are stacked behind the sofa.

Vivian is diagnosed with a rare and severe form of epilepsy known as Dravet syndrome.

These are a few of the ways her parents relentlessly manage everything that comes into contact with their youngest daughter, who suffered her first seizure when she was 2 months old.

None of it is enough. Medications help, as does a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet — every meal weighed to a 10th of a gram. But only so much.

Vivian’s parents, Brian and Meghan Wilson, enrolled her in New Jersey’s medicinal marijuana program in desperation, hoping that a strain of pot that has stopped most seizures in a small but growing number of children in Colorado and California could help her.

Chong says legalized marijuana could save country

Category: Celebrities | Posted on Sun, May, 19th 2013 by THCFinder
NEW YORK — The Grammy Award-winning comedy duo Cheech and Chong based their 42-year career on counterculture humor with a particular emphasis on marijuana use. But these days Tommy Chong sees the recreational drug as something more than fodder for jokes about stoned hippies.

The 74-year-old comedian thinks legalizing marijuana on a federal level would offer numerous benefits, including a boost to the U.S. economy if it were taxed.

"Look at the situation we're in now. Sequesters. Cuts. Everything cut across the board. Now, the government is tapped into the biggest cash crop in the world," Chong said. "There's little manufacturing cost. You don't have to do anything except watch it grow and get a couple of hippies to cut it and then put it in a bag."

His ambitions for marijuana may be outsized, but he notes the potential medical uses that have already inspired some states to legalize the drug. Nearly 20 states have enacted laws to legalize medical marijuana, and two of them — Colorado and Washington — have totally legalized it. And at least 12 states have pending legislation to legalize for medical use.

"Hemp itself is going to save the world," Chong said.

AK47 Marijuana nugs

Category: Nugs | Posted on Sat, May, 18th 2013 by THCFinder

AK47 - Sativa

Despite its aggressive name, AK-47 has many peaceful tendencies. First bred in 1992, the name suggests the power packed in its dark, resinous, compact buds that bristle with red hairs and glistening trichomes. AK-47 has a spiced aroma bordering on skunk, with a hint of sandalwood, but tastes sweeter and more floral than the smell would lead one to expect. The AK-47 buzz is immediate and long lasting with an alert but mellow cerebral effect. Lab tests have rated the THC content at over 20 percent, making it a "one hit wonder" for many smokers. This variety can be a little spacey, but is great for playing and listening to music, or other social activities. AK-47 helped put Serious Seeds on the map with a 2nd place finish in the hydroponics competition and a 3rd place in the overall category at the 1995 Cannabis Cup in the Netherlands.

UFC Punishes Marijuana, Not Violent Threats Against Women

Category: News | Posted on Sat, May, 18th 2013 by THCFinder
Following up on Johnny Green’s post on the UFC not punishing fighters for testosterone while vacating wins and seizing prize money over marijuana metabolites, we have some updates on the story.

It seems that to add insult to injury, UFC President Dana White is taking the $65,000 “Submission of the Night” bonus forfeited by Pat Healy and awarding it to the only other fighter that night to win by submission, Bryan Caraway.  We can’t be too harsh on someone taking a free sixty-five grand after being pummeled, even if he’s essentially being rewarded for exhibiting the second-best performance, but we can be harsh if he trash-talks marijuana when he couldn’t out-perform someone using it, as Caraway did to MMA Junkie:

All I’ve got to say is that’s some expensive weed. I like Healy a lot. I came up through the fighting ranks with him. We used to train together at Team Quest. I love the guy. But I have absolutely zero remorse or guilt.

I hate weed. I cannot stand it. I’ve never tried it. I’ve never smoked a drug in my life. So I have absolutely zero tolerance for people that do it. I don’t care if it’s legal in some places or not. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous. Whether it’s legal in real life or not, they tell you to follow the rules. You need to follow the rules.
