Legalized marijuana prompts new question: What about hash?

Category: Legalization | Posted on Mon, July, 15th 2013 by THCFinder
hash-hashhishSEATTLE — Jim Andersen has a 40-year history with hashish, the concentrated cannabis sometimes referred to as the cognac of the marijuana world.

When he served in the Air Force in Southeast Asia, he said he smuggled it home in his boots. When he was in grad school in California, he made it with a centrifuge in a lab after hours.

So when Washington was on the verge of legalizing the sale of taxed pot last fall, Andersen decided to move back to his home state and turn his hobby into a full-time, legitimate paycheck — a business that would supply state-licensed, recreational marijuana stores with high-quality hash oil.

"Every major culture that has marijuana associated with it has hash associated with it as well," said Andersen, whose company, XTracted, already has two Seattle locations serving medical marijuana dispensaries. He said his business would help prevent such pot extracts from ending up on the black market.

Substance abuse experts are concerned that such increasingly popular, extremely potent and potentially dangerous pot extracts will be sold, and that state regulators' interpretation of the recreational marijuana law will allow people to buy vastly more hash than they need for personal use.

That, they fear, will increase the chances that some of it will end up in the black market out of state.

Lil Reese Arrested for Marijuana Possession

Category: Celebrities | Posted on Mon, July, 15th 2013 by THCFinder
lil-reese-mjLil Reese, née Tavares Taylor, was arrested Saturday (July 13) for possession of $24 worth of cannabis and violating his bail bond, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Police were on patrol in an area of Englewood, Calif., an area known for gang-related conflicts, and spotted Taylor standing on the sidewalk with persons known as gang members. Police report seeing Taylor drop the four grams of the drug on the ground when he saw them approaching. A search found he had more than $2,000 in cash on him.

The reporting officer then wrote that he admitted to having the drugs. "It's mine, I got a little weed. So what? ... There's serious crime out there. This ain't a big deal. I'm gangster,"

Taylor was denied a $10,000 bail.

This is the third time this year the 20-year-old Glory Boyz Entertainment/Def Jam signee has had a run-in with law enforcement. There was a warrant out for his arrest on criminal trespasing charges when he was caught sleeping in a car in Champaign County, Ill., back in April. Also that month, he was stopped in Chicago and charged with not signaling, driving without a license and driving without insurance.

Last year, he was tried in the court of public opinion when an old video of him beating a woman went viral.

Fla. faces campaign for medical marijuana

Oxycodone didn't work. Neither did hydrocodone nor any of the other narcotics sold to stop pain.

So an area woman did what many others do. She smoked marijuana to ease the pain she felt deep in her bones caused by treatment for breast cancer.

"I have a high tolerance for pain ... and I hated taking pills," the woman said. "But when I laid down to go to bed and my body started hurting and I couldn't sleep ... taking four or five tokes took the edge off so I could get to sleep."

A lot of people in the U.S. share the view that marijuana is medicine. Eighteen states plus the District of Columbia allow varying use of marijuana for medical use.

Washington state approved medical marijuana in 1998 and Colorado in 2000. Last year Colorado and Washington state went further — voters approved referendums to legalize marijuana for recreational use as well.

Florida allows neither recreational use of pot nor medicinal use. Several attempts have been made to get the Legislature to approve medical marijuana, but the bills never advanced far.

Now, however, a major push to take the question to voters is starting. Orlando attorney John Morgan of Orlando-based Morgan and Morgan law firm — known for its "For the People" advertising — is pledging $3 million to get a statewide referendum on the 2014 general election ballot.

The backers need the signatures of 788,000 Floridians by early next year to get it on the ballot.
