Cancer sufferer turned to cannabis

A "LONELY" bachelor has been spared jail for growing and supplying cannabis to deal with sleep deprivation while he battled cancer – and repay people who helped him out.
William Burton, 68, of Lancaster Avenue, Grimsby, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009 and spent months in chemotherapy which left him depressed and alone.
He suffered from extreme sleep deprivation – he was lucky to get a few hours of rest, and when he did, he was plagued by nightmares.
Mr Burton heard from friends that cannabis would help and turned to the drug to aid his sleep and lift his mood.
But Mr Burton, who was in the Merchant Navy for more than 30 years, is now living on benefits and found it too expensive.
Virtually housebound, he started growing it for himself and others with health problems – and to reward the growing number of people he was relying upon.
Mr Burton said: "When you spend all that time feeling ill and sleeping after chemotherapy, people soon stop coming round – but you need help because you're ill.
"A worse thing was not sleeping so I started smoking it before I went to bed and I could actually get a full night's sleep.
"I wasn't making money – I would give it to other people like me who were in need and they would do the same for me."

Thiago Silva Addresses Marijuana Use: 'It Doesn't Change Your Performance'
Category: Culture | Posted on Tue, May, 21st 2013 by THCFinder
The role of marijuana as a performance-enhancing drug (PED) has garnered much attention since Pat Healy lost a fortune (and a win) for testing positive after his victory over Jim Miller at UFC 159.
Thiago Silva, a UFC fighter who knows a little something about being disciplined for marijuana consumption, recently spoke to bjpenn.com to add his two cents to the discussion.
The light heavyweight combatant, who is scheduled to welcome Rafael Cavalcante to the Octagon on June 8, provided the following perspective:
You know, it’s very complicated what to say about that. A lot of guys, they like to drink, you know; I don’t drink, I like to smoke. I don’t smoke any more, because I really can’t, but I used to like a lot because it helps me to relax. It’s not like a drug like everybody say[s]. So actually, it’s legal in California, you know. To be honest, I don’t think it’s fair, you know, because it doesn't change your performance.
Silva's sentiments echo those of handfuls of fans and fellow fighters who recently came to Healy's defense. While the legality of marijuana varies from location to location, many feel that its impact on athletic performance is negligible and that testing for it in MMA is arbitrary and pointless.
Counter arguments focus on the safety of the user, citing slowed reflexes and general lethargy as effects of consumption. Other arguments claim that marijuana use dulls pain, granting the user an unfair advantage in a sport where pain is so prevalent.

Chief Keef arrested: Rapper busted for smoking marijuana at swanky hotel
Category: Celebrities | Posted on Tue, May, 21st 2013 by THCFinder
Seventeen-year-old rap star Chief Keef was arrested on Monday.
According to a police report obtained by TMZ, the "Finally Rich" rapper, whose real name is Keith Cozart, was busted for allegedly smoking marijuana at an upscale Atlanta hotel.
Cozart, who shot to fame in 2012 after catching the attention of fellow rappers Kanye West and 50 Cent, was initially booked for disorderly conduct, but a police report later specified that marijuana was involved.
It isn’t his first run in with the law, the rapper has been arrested at least twice before - in January of 2011 for heroin manufacture distribution, which landed him on house arrest, and again in December of that year for aggravated assault with a weapon.
Taking to Twitter after his release Monday, Cozart wrote ""Jus Got Out Of Dekalb County jail In Atlanta Mad As f--k."
The "I Don't Like" singer didn't appear to be fazed by the addition to his record - on Tuesday he joked with Twitter followers about how quickly his booking photo made rounds online.
