Mark Wahlberg has explained that his children prompted him to stop smoking marijuana.

E! Online reports that while acceptingVariety's 'Indie Impact Award' at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Wahlberg joked that the statuette resembled a bong, before adding that he doesn't "use those anymore".

Wahlberg continued at hotel Parker Palm Springs: "I stopped smoking weed for my kids.

"One day, we were driving and you could smell it from somewhere. My daughter asked what the smell was so I told her it was a skunk.

"Then she said, 'Sometimes daddy smells like that!' to me and my wife. So I knew I had to quit."
