The Follow-Up to "The Union" Aims to be the Greatest Cannabis Documentary of All Time
Just about everyone reading this has heard of or seen “The Union,” a testament to just how popular and far-reaching that marijuana documentary is. Released 5 years ago, it is still the standard by which all other documentaries about cannabis are judged.
Now the makers of “The Union” are looking to make the next great cannabis documentary, and they have released a video to promote the Kickstarter page they have set up to fund the project.
In the description of the video on Youtube the makers say, “Kickstarter video for ‘The Culture High’ documentary funding (follow-up film to The Union). Please visit: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/scorgie/the-culture-high
“There you can find ways to support the project such as pre-purchasing your copy of the film. Thank you everyone for the amazing continued support!!!”
They are trying to raise $190,000 by August 1st. As of this writing they are at a little over $55,000 with about a month to go.
If “The Culture High” can be even half as popular as “The Union,” it will be an immense boon to the marijuana law reform movement. If you can’t give anything, share the video with your social networks so more people can be reached.
A Vote for Freedom is Never Wasted
“A vote for freedom is never wasted.” That simple idea sums up the Presidential campaign of former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson. Many say his Libertarian Party run will take votes away from Republican Mitt Romney or Democratic President Barack Obama, and as he says in this video, that’s a good thing.
What have the two major party candidates done to earn your vote? That’s really the only question you have to answer when you vote this fall. If the answer is “nothing,” push the button for someone else.
Gary Johnson will be the only candidate on the ballot in all 50 states who supports marijuana legalization and the pardon of all non-violent marijuana offenders. He is the only one who believes a state should be allowed to make its own laws when it comes to cannabis.
In fact, he is the only major candidate who will even talk about marijuana law reform without being forced to do so. Obama will laugh and Romney will get agitated that you are taking up his precious time with something so beneath him.
Many don’t know who Gary Johnson is, and if that’s the case, you might want to check him out.
LEAP's Neill Franklin on Race and The War on Drugs
For those of you not aware, there is a group of former cops, prosecutors and judges who make up the advocacy group Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (http://leap.cc), a group dedicated to spreading knowledge about how much the damage the drug war is doing.
The Executive Director of LEAP – former Maryland State Police narcotics officer Neill Franklin – speaks at many functions around the country, and this video comes from LEAP’s Youtube page. It features Mr. Franklin speaking to the NAACP in Boston, Massachusetts about The War on Drugs and what it is doing to the black community.
The most surprising part about the video is the statistic on black women and incarceration. While drug laws are obviously used to target black men, there is little mention in even the independent media and the incredible rise in black women being jailed for drugs.
Which brings up an interesting point. While many black activists bring attention to this problem, President Obama goes out of his way to prop up the very system that is responsible for this new form of slavery. This is heinous not only because of his black heritage, but because he is a Democrat, who African-Americans vote for at a 90%+ clip. And Obama makes no move to correct this situation, a situation that affects much of his voting base.
Does power change someone that much?
