GARDEN GROVE, Calif. — A Southern California community has asked federal authorities to oust medical marijuana dispensaries in the Orange County city.
Garden Grove police Chief Kevin Raney told the City Council on Tuesday night that his department has been in discussions with the Drug Enforcement Administration and agents are expected soon.
He wants the DEA to enforce federal law. California allows for the medical use of marijuana, federal law does not.
Raney says there are about 60 dispensaries in the city.
Federal agents raided two medical pot dispensaries in nearby Costa Mesa earlier this year.
The Orange County Register ( says Raney's comments came in response to council member questions and resident complaints about the proliferation of the dispensaries in the city.
Raney says there are about 60 dispensaries in the city.
