Popular HempCon faces changes if marijuana is legalized
Monica Leon waited outside the Cow Palace Saturday morning, beneath a low-lying cloud that lingered above the heads of the 100 or so people waiting in line around her. She took a long drag from a joint and passed it to the guy next to her.
People cheered with excitement. Loud reggae music echoed out of the nearby building. A strong aroma filled the air.
It was the second day of HempCon, the popular cannabis industry event that fills the Cow Palace a few times each year with an array of eager-to-sell medical marijuana vendors, paraphernalia enthusiasts, marijuana activist groups and interested medical marijuana cardholders.
A large group of people waited eagerly in the parking lot for the doors to open at 11 a.m.

Leonard Marshall, NFL Super Bowl Champion, To Keynote Cannabis World Congress In New York
Providing personal insight as a successful business entrepreneur and former champion NFL player diagnosed with CTE, Leonard A. Marshall, Jr., will be an enlightening Keynote speaker at the Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition, (CWCBExpo), at the Javits Center in NYC. Taking place June 15-17, 2016, CWCBExpo NY is the leading trade show and conference for the medical marijuana and legalized cannabis industry.
Marshall’s Keynote on Thursday, June 16, will precede the all-star thought-leadership panel on “CTE, Concussions and CBD,” which he will also moderate. As a successful athlete, businessman, medical marijuana business investor, philanthropist and family man, Marshall will inspire CWCBExpo attendees on what it takes to overcome challenges and obstacles to succeed.
“I am ecstatic to be participating in CWCBExpo and keynoting and moderating the thought leadership panel. With my background and experience in football and with CTE, I’ll be able to bring a first-hand perspective to this important topic. I look forward to addressing this issue in such a professional and well planned forum along with the other athletes,” said Leonard Marshall.

Join Me April 12 In Portland For The National Cannabis Industry Association Cannabis Caucus Event
I don’t get out to a lot of events, but I try to get to as many National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) events as possible. NCIA is not only the leading national advocacy group for the emerging cannabis industry (I think they are the only one!), but they also do an amazing job at the local level too. One example of that is the upcoming Quarterly Cannabis Caucus events that are being held all over America. One of the locations is Portland, Oregon, which I plan on attending on April 12. I hope to see you there! Below is more information about the event in Portland:
The National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA), the only national trade association for legal marijuana businesses in the U.S., will host an Oregon Cannabis Caucus on Tuesday, April 12, in Portland. The Cannabis Caucus is an educational and networking event designed to update cannabis professionals on the latest in policy and industry developments, while helping connect local cannabis business leaders.
Featured speakers for the event include Jake Oken-Berg from the Office of Sen. Jeff Merkley, Heather Smyth of MJ Freeway, and Taylor West of NCIA.

If You Are Serious About Succeeding In Oregon’s Cannabis Industry The Oregon Marijuana Business Conference Is A Must
Last year I attended the Oregon Marijuana Business Conference, which was at that time called the Oregon Medical Marijuana Business Conference. The name change is a reflection of the current times, as recreational cannabis is legal in Oregon, and limited sales have been occurring since late last year. By the end of the year full recreational sales should be occurring in Oregon. Last year’s event was awesome because it took place during the lead up to recreational rule making and there was a lot to discuss.
As a lifelong Oregonian myself, I can personally say that it’s an amazing time to live in this state. There is a lot going on, and it’s very exciting. But there’s also a lot of uncertainty. Yes, there have been other states that have gone ahead of Oregon, but Oregon is going to be different, as every state will be. As the recent extract debacle showed, things are in a fragile state for the Oregon cannabis industry in its young life. Navigating the landscape is not always easy, which is why this year’s Oregon Marijuana Business Conference is so important and timely, as was last years event.
This year the event is bringing Tommy Chong and Dr. Carl Hart to Eugene, and I can’t wait to attend myself and see what they have to say. To be clear, this isn’t a sponsored post in anyway. I genuinely loved the last event I attended, and have been looking forward to this year’s event for months. Below is more information about the event. You can get tickets at a significant discount if you purchase them by April 8th:
